There are four main pillars of virtual assisting. Most tasks will fall under one of them. Start virtual assisting today with these twelve offerings.

Let's start at the beginning. What is a virtual assistant?

A virtual assistant (Often referred to as the acronym VA) by definition is an independent contracted professional, who offers administration support to companies virtually and/or remotely. These companies range from huge businesses of popular and widely known brands, to freelancers, to the mom and pop shop down the street and anything in between.

My name is Carly and I have been slaying the Virtual Assistant game since early 2019! I started as a social media manager, helping life coaches and marketing firms with their social media presence (mostly Instagram). Over the years, I've been able to pivot and transition my business into an array of other support roles.

There are four main pillars of virtual assisting. Most tasks will fall under one of them.

  1. General Admin

  2. Design

  3. Tech

  4. Social Media

Here is a list of three offerings for each pillar that you can start offering as a virtual assistant TODAY!

General Admin

  • Email Inbox Support. Managing an inbox for a client can be incredibly useful to the almost ANYONE. Bring forth your customer service skills and your sleuthing skills to answer any and all questions that come through your inbox. Life hack: keep a list of frequently asked questions and answers on deck so you can easily copy and paste the response!

  • Copywriting. Even during the rise of AI, a lot of clients need a human touch to their copy writing. This could include writing social media captions, blog posts, email newsletters, podcast show notes or so much more!

  • Course Management. A lot of lovely life coaches out there will host group coaching programs or masterminds. Become their course manager and take care of all the nitty-gritty, like customer service, reminder emails, and call replays!

Design

  • Web design. This one may take a bit of tech savvy energy, but I believe in you! Landing pages and sales pages can be an obstacle that is stopping a lot of people. Offering web design, landing page design or sales page design will turn a lot of heads. **this doesn't necessarily include copywriting! Be sure to clarify with your client about that!

  • Social Media posts. This one could arguably fall under the social media tab but I wanted to put it here since it would be a design specific offering. I've worked with teams that have graphic designers on deck to make graphics for social media, and the social media manager will handle the posting and engaging.

  • Canva Templates. I'm sure you've seen people offering Canva templates! This could be handmade templates for reels, stories, posts, e- books or even freebies! This could be a great source of passive income too.

Tech

  • Email Marketing. Email Marketing is my bread and butter as a VA. This could include formatting newsletters to go our to their email list or taking their new freebie or low ticket offer, and setting up the automation, so when someone signs up, they receive it!

  • Website Maintenance. Your client should be updating their website every once in a while with updating information and offers. Rather than hiring a web designer each time, I like to take a stab at it. This could include updating a sales page from a paid offer to a waitlist page, adding the RSS feed of a new podcast episode to the site, updating testimonials with new ones or more!

  • Marketing Funnels. When someone joins your clients email list, whether its with a freebie or a paid offering, you are going to want to nurture this new lead! This is where you come in! Setting up systems and automations to nurture your new email subscriber with a series of emails can be the difference between your client losing a hot lead vs signing a new high ticket offer!

Social Media

  • Pinterest Support. Pinterest is a beautiful search engine in itself. Offering Pinterest Support could mean re-purposing content into 3-5 pins per post to help spread the word! I've gotten clients to over 100k views with this method.

  • Instagram Engagement. Good ol fashioned human touch of Instagram engagement. This is generally an add on feature with social media management that you can offer! Spend 10-30 minutes a day scrolling on your clients instagram and post meaningful comments. None of these spammy bot comments 🙅‍♀️

  • Group Management. A client may have a community in a place like Facebook or Mighty Networks. Help them by going in each day and responding to comments, cheering people on , and/or posting engaging posts!

Now, these are no where near all of the tasks and services offered by a virtual assistant by any means, but these are the ones that I've most commonly encountered throughout my years of a VA for each pillar. If you have different ones, comment below! Let's inspire others.
