Part One - January 2023.
I decided to start this segment of my blog called the workcation chronicles to remind myself that there is life outside of work, to document my grandiose adventures, and to maybe inspire others to live an “against the norm, non-traditional” life.
I wanted to start this series way back when, in May 2022, when I took my lil ‘ol business on it’s very first international business trip! My loving partner and I and my very best friend in the whole world/ the most impressive trip enabler ever, took off for Bali, Indonesia to make our digital nomad dreams come true and live that tropical paradise life for two whole months.
I had this idea to document my travels as a travel blog so that I can look back and remember the good times. Spoiler alert, that didn’t happen. Turns out that I was so engulfed in burnout, that I was well on my way to a not so epic business breakdown - more on that in Unapologetically Balanced, my freaking BOOK, coming soon.
I envisioned recapping my week into short form blog content, sharing photos and re-living the adventures that we went on and next thing I knew it was August, I was back in Canada and I couldn’t really remember the whirlwind that was the last few months.
I’m kind of an all or nothing kinda gal, so why not try again, start this series in the new year and see where it takes me! I don’t anticipate writing about every single day, because not taking a break and not keeping that balance between business and pleasure is what lead me to burnout in the first place, BUT I will pop in to share all my fun adventures and brag about myself as much as I choose to.
Welcome to Workcation Chronicles: Digital Nomad, Work-Life Adventures.
Date: Dec 19th, 2022 to Jan 2nd, 2023
Currently in: Victoria BC, Canada
How am I balancing: Taking time off for me.
I did it. I took a whole ten days off for the holidays. I didn’t open my computer except for Netflix. I closed all of my business tabs. I didn’t check voxer, not even on my phone!!!! I was completely OOO (Out Of Office). I even made a vacation email responder!!!! It felt really good to take extended time off from my business for literally the first time EVER and know that my clients were supported and were happy for me to relax!
My adventure started on Dec 19th. I flew from Kelowna to Victoria on a dinky little plane with twenty seats. The weather was turning bad, fast. There was a winter storm coming through western Canada and it decided to hit when everyone was trying to fly home for the holidays. I got to the airport early for my flight and as I made my way slowly through the security line, my flight was getting more and more delayed, I’m assuming due to the weather. There were few and far between flights that day that actually left on time. I was set to land in Victoria well before the snow hit, but my flight kept getting more and more delayed. We finally took off after four hours, and made the hour-long flight to Victoria. Alliy (the dopest sister ever) was there to pick me up in her brand new car with her shiny new license!
I’ve been in Victoria BC for the past two weeks and it has been amazing! She took time off too, and with her new driving skills and car, we’ve been taking advantage of the island's lack of winter (after the snow-maggedon). We’ve gone on hikes to Mount Doug, Thetis Lake and Mount Manuel Quimper. We walked along the ocean to the Break Water (Ogden Point) and window shopped in Downtown Victoria.
While I’ve been here, I've also gotten to catch up with good friends and meet my bestie’s pup, Koda. I’m so grateful for my time here and I can’t wait to see what adventures I get up to this year!!! Next stop on the adventure is to Vancouver BC, then Whistler BC!
